Frequently Asked Questions

Do we only do in-home work?

No! We understand if it may be too difficult to have us at your home or space for multiple work days so if the piece is not too large or too heavy to carry, you can drop off the ready-to-be-designed pieces at our store in Woodridge, IL. Art and design as usual will be your choice.

How long does epoxy take to cure?

Epoxy resin cures for very light use after 72 hours. No heavy objects until at least one week after completion. We do not recommend hot items like cooking dishes to go on top of the counter until at least one month after completion.

Is epoxy waterproof?

Yes. This is one of it’s greatest assets aside from the adhesion and filling attributes – is its ability to seal and form a waterproof (and anti-corrosive) layer of protection over your surface.

How long will the process take?

Please keep in mind the epoxy process is a multiple day process. The time depends on the work and the kind of project it is. On an average kitchen countertop, it will be a 4 or 5 day process. For example, day 1 and 2 are usually designing days and day 2 is an epoxy coating day. Day 3 will be either another coat of epoxy or cleaning day. Day 4/5 is the final cleaning day. Epoxy takes 24 hours to lightly cure and may need more than one coat. After 72 hours, the counter may be used for extremely light use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials do we work over?

We work over a variety of different materials. Existing granite, vinyl, laminate, glass, MDF, plywood, wood. Butcher wood may only contain up to 5% moisture maximum. Otherwise, overtime the epoxy may split due to trapped moisture.

What are the benefits of epoxy?

  • It is a food-safe and non-toxic surface.

  • It is highly customizable, unlike granite.

  • It has a high gloss finish or matte depending on preference.

  • Every epoxy countertop made by our artist is one of a kind and distinctive. No epoxy can be 100% exactly replicated so it leaves it to be unique to you.

  • Staining is not easy for epoxy surfaces as long as spills are cleaned up right away and not sitting on the surface.

  • It is seamless so no seems are showing under your countertop.

  • It is non-porous so there is no need to worry about mold or bacteria.

  • It is heat resistant after one month of curing and completion.

  • It is more inexpensive than real rock or granite surfaces.

  • Epoxy and our professional artist give you the freedom to choose what colors and design is desired.

  • The cured epoxy surface has a durable resin coating making the surface extremely tough.

  • The glossy resin coatings on top of the finished art provide a shiny long lasting shine that does not need additional coatings after completion to be kept in shiny shape. No need to worry about fading.

What may some of the epoxy disadvantages be?

  • The process of completion can be space consuming and time consuming. One countertop is minimum 4 days of work.

  • The space around the work area must be free of dust or harsh movement for at least 7-10 days.

  • The surface cannot be used for at least 72 hours after the epoxy is complete. Once 72 hours is passed, it can only be used for LIGHT use.

  • Pets may NOT be around for any part of the process.

  • Heat filters must be changed before the process can begin so that the air has no particles from the heat coming in.
